This is the story of how Zorp automated the procurement and warehousing at one of Asia's largest meat supply chain companies.
In mid 2022, Zorp was approached by one of the largest meat supply chain companies in Asia. They own one of the largest and widest procurement practices and sorting centers in the industry.
The key principle of this customer is the quality of their products. When their product is delivered to their customer, it needs to be organic, fresh and clean with ample time for the customer to consume it. This means, they need to optimize for travel, packaging and logistics to have the best quality and minimal time from harvesting to consumption.
In order to ensure this, they have a high reliance on technology to track every part of their supply chain and continuously improve it.
Unlike any other product, the sensitive nature of their inventory meant that they needed to handle a specific set of processes. This meant that the traditional supply chain systems are not well-suited to the needs of their business.
On top of that, it is absolutely critical that their product reaches the customer within a specific period in order to have it fresh and clean.
They need multiple systems that ensure all the data is synced properly in real time with absolutely quality. This is across procurement, inventory, sortation, logistics and quality. They also have prediction systems that consume the supply chain data in real-time and take purchase, transport and sales decisions. This asks for high quality data coming from their supply chain.
While the team built most of the intelligence systems in house to cater to the needs, they needed to build a large number of very specific applications for execution at different centers and capture high quality data.
Even with the large team, this is a lot of investment across development and maintenance.
This is when the team discovered Zorp. These use cases were one of the most complicated use cases built in the supply chain. So, the team ran a lot of pilot tests to make sure Zorp can accommodate their very specific use cases and the scale they are handling.
After a couple of months of testing, the team decided to invest in Zorp to build specific execution applications in their procurement and sortation centers.
Prior to using Zorp, these teams were using paper and pen to track all their efforts. This meant that there were huge data quality issues and unreliable inventory data in their ERP.
Zorp collects the execution data in real-time and pushes it to their inventory systems for real time reconciliation of inventory at different stages of their supply chain. This data helps the team to build prediction models for inventory, pricing and other critical activities.
With the introduction of Zorp, the movement of goods in every part of their supply chain is tracked and recorded. Their prediction models are able to provide 60% better output based on the high quality data that they're able to gather.
This has also led to significant reduction in expiry of their core product which has resulted in multi-folds improvement in their unit economics.
